first week of camp!

there was a scary looking dog near the playground so fiona felt it necessary to make a sign to warn others...

we made a tin foil river at imagination playground in prospect park. we had a lot of extra help from the other kids at the park- it was really cute to watch everyone work together.
the water fountain didn't want to cooperate with our water balloons but we found a way to make it work with a straw, several helping hands and A LOT of patience- it literally took three sets of hands to fill one balloon!
we found a caterpillar and had lots of fun examining it...
and photographing it...
on our way to the park we salvaged some found wood and had fun decorating it...
theo drew this picture after we learned about poison ivy. we talked about where it grows, what to do when exposed to it and learned some cool new rhymes ("leaves of three let it be", "harry vine, no friend of mine" and "berries white, danger in sight").
we made magical bottles out of some food dye, corn syrup, vegetable oil and water. the kids decided how much of what they wanted to use. it was unbelievably messy- oil everywhere!
we made boats out of various recycled materials...

leroy helped all the campers make paper airplanes and afterwards we had fun marking where the planes landed...
soon other kids at the park wanted to make their own, so leroy helped teach them as well!
he was busy!
these photos are so great!
